Down in New Orleans where the gators grow so mean......

Nah, not the song.......

During typical summertime lows of the Mississippi there is a "saltwater"
wedge that extends up-river as far as New Orleans. It hugs the bottom of the
river because the lighter freshwater overrides the denser saltwater.

It sometimes creates a problem for communities or other entities who depend
on the mighty Mississippi for their freshwater supplies.
