If they are around, this is the time in your area you should find the pods
of young. Sunny warm afternoons are best. Still, shallow, clear (stained is
alright) water that is warm with good weed growth is the best habitat to
find young. This is never a gaurantee even in the best locations though. I
have not found young here in several years, other than two last year that
got caught in a ditch after flood waters receded. Yet I can catch adult
bowfins one for one to largemouth bass or northern pike in the same waters,
and their young are easily found.
