I apologize if I have already sent this - my mail program is acting out and I am pretty sure it didb't go out alreaady-
Does anyone have a good (cheap) source for compact fluorescent ballasts?
I am looking specifically for a ballast to run 2x55 watt CF tubes. I found a ballast from real-tek (rel2tts50) that looks interesting. When I was in Chicago this weekend, I checked prices at local lighting stores and got prices around $70!
I checked www.ahsupply.com <http://www.ahsupply.com> and their prices are a little better ($65 for a light kit - everything but the bulbs)
When I did some more searching, I found a website that describes techniques for DIY lighting (www.neoreef.com <http://www.neoreef.com>)
The author mentioned that the ballast could be had for about $30.
So thus my questions - anyone have a good, cheap source for ballasts?
BTW-
Has anyone tried using the new 55 watt torchiere bulb? It's not a linear bulb - it's bent into basically a square shape, about 8" square. It looks like it might be interesting, especially because it only costs $10 at Menard's.
