A while back, I had made a request as an out of state person to collect black banded sunfish in NJ. I specifically told them that I wanted a few for my personal use. This was their reply.

Mr Butts;

We can not comply with you request for a permits to collect Black Banded
sunfish. This species is severely limited in its range and distribution. It is
endemic to the Atlantic Ocean/New Jersey Pine Barrens tributaries. We will
shortly be considering a project to develop a management plan for this species.
Once that plan is completed and depending on the results we can better address
collection of this species.

Thank you for your interest
