Hellbenders are having severe population declines through thier ranges (two
different populations, subspecies). Most states have enacted regs protecting
them. In a few states they can be legally collected with a fishing license.
Double check collecting and possession requirements in both the state of
origin and the destination. Lacy act violations are a pain in the neck. Moon
be advised that you will need a chiller or other cooling system to maintain
the hellbender successfully for longterm.
