Martin,

I might be able to help you out later when the trees produce fruit
(September-October). I believe though that the species is cultivated and
may be available from some of the bigger native plant producers. Try a
search under its latin name (Maclura pomifera) or any of the vernacular
names you mentionned although I think that "bowdock" may be a phonetic
spelling of its French name, Bois D'arc which means bow-wood and refers to
the fact that the Osage Indians used it to make their bows. If you can't
find any and are still looking come fall, send me a reminder. They are easy
to come by if I can beat the squirrels and feral hogs to them.
