Collecting turtles from the wild should be stopped but I think a case can be
made for captive breeding of turtles. I wonder if snapping turtles are a good
risk for captive breeding? Alligators seem to be and as turtles go snapping
turtles are very good eating. If the ban on selling baby turtles could be
lifted without seeing repeat of the craziness of selling them as disposable
pets for children maybe some of the wild collecting of adult turtles could be
avoided and allow turtles to be breed in the same way some snakes and lizards
are done. Resulting in less pressure on wild populations and allowing color
morphs and other mutations of turtles to become popular much like with
snakes.
