The SC state record of 21 lbs. 8 oz. is also the world record. This fish
was caught near Florence, SC back in 1980. I've heard that bowfin measuring
30" or better are regularly caught in the Santee-Cooper lakes (Lakes Marion
& Moultrie). One guy I spoke with just recently caught a 30" female that
weighed just over 12lbs.

According to Mettee et al. in "Fishes of Alabama...", adult size is 15 to 24

inches (380 - 610 mm). Amd trivia for the day, the AL state angling record
for bowfin is 17 lbs. 12 oz., caught in the Mobile Delta in 1978.
