i dont know about the "greatest" but unique for our region.
copperhill tn was mining copper ( i think )... and the byproduct was acid
which rained down on the region... killing all vegatation for many square
miles.
this could be seen from space... and was noted at one time as the largest
manmade natural disaster.
the area now has pines moving into it but big expanses are still barren and
red.
ive done a bit of hiking in it for an alien feel. odd, lunar, vast flats,
rusting structures, ravines. no fish.
