Thanks to all of you for your input on this debate. As I said, the question
comes up in the field almost every time we encounter either (or both)
species. In fact, Geoff and I had the same questions Saturday morning, but
elected not to go there. I studied the fish in both tanks last night for
awhile. I'm probably more confused than before, but I do have some
specimens preserved and ready to go to Andy. Maybe he can shed more light
on the matter. In the final analysis, we may discover that the lateral line
is actually God's bar code for fish and that we just don't have the proper
decoding device at present. (-:
