I hadn't noticed that. Wow.

They were purple down the sides as well, but you can't see that. That's the
reflection of the sky or whatever as body contoured up and down. I took the
shot to show that the purple was absolutely stunning all the way across the
animal. You could rotate the animals to send that greenish/yellow hue at any
point which was the most convex angle, but the dominant color at any angle was
purple. We debated about the sky's reflection and such, and then Nick said
"Just take a picture okay?" ;)

I'm not a real fan of macrochirus (their attitude and commonality), but these
were cool enough I was almost willing to risk my rainbowfish collection until
I could get a system up. :)

I have seen some purple color in small bluegills but not
as strong or widespread as seen in the pics. It usually
is on the sides of the fish (which appear yellow-green
in these pics). But, take a look at the eyes on the specimen.
Aren't they huge?
