I went to visit with some folks in the lower school of Maumee Valley Country
Day where I'd set up a native tank and talked to the Biology Sophmores about
native fish last year. A large acrylic tank had been donated to the third
grade teacher. Because they turn the heat off every night at 3:30 and leave
it off until 7:30 am, the teacher didn't want to fuss with tropicals and
really didn't want goldfish.

Natives fit the bill nicely. We're going to learn all about Centrarchidae
:)

But the full extent of the coolness wasn't realized until I walked in there.

They do their elementary as an no-walls learning system... The whole
elementary is in the same _large_ room and share resources so that if
something interests one student in another grade they can go right on over
and learn too..... Wow.

The whole elementary is getting this lesson I guess....

That and I had my mind blown and felt cheated that I'd been stuffed into
Institutionalized Prison Cell "binge and regurgitate" learning that bored me
to death.... But that's one for another day ;)

It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
