Chip,

The main reason I designed the shiner scoop was because I didn't have a seine
partner and it was so easy just to stand on the bank of the stream and net
them with the long reach of the shiner scoop and ALSO to keep my feet dry at
the same time......

But occasionally, it helps to stand in the riffles and stir up the substrate
for two reasons.......first, to attract them closer to you, and secondly to
"blind" them from seeing you while they feed on the organisms that you've just
stirred up.....works everytime!
