NANFA-- catching snapping turtles

Do turtles drag carion to the water or will they eat it on land? If they eat
it on land, wonder if you could maybe wire some to the base of a tree in a
likely area near water and then try to sneak up on the area periodically. I
imagine they would also leave some sort of tracks or sign in the area if they
were feeding.
