I agree, here there is some call to restrict access to the beach. I have been
using the beach for most of my life, and I often bring back a truck load of
garbage washed up from the sea. Mostly tossed over from boats and ships. But
for some reason a few people can't stand the idea of me and people like me
driving on the beach in our 4X4's. I fish, beach comb, and just enjoy the sun
and surf. I can see not driving among the dunes and I don't. But I pay taxes
that are used to fight the natural progression of inlets and erosion on the
beach but the same people that want the beach frozen in time which is
unnatural don't want me to use it. If I can't use it I don't care if it's
there or not, it naturally comes and goes over the course of centuries and to
say that leaving a tire track somehow detracts from the natural appearance of
something that is in essence no more stable than a fog bank is crazy. I am
willing to avoid sea bird nesting area's and would never molest a seaturtle,
but I'll run over a ghost crab in a heart beat! I would fight to protect the
beach from pollution, but if I can't use it why bother? Oh yeah, the same
people who cry every time a 4X4 rides down the beach were all for the local
movie company (they call us Hollywood east now) building a beach house on a
pristine stretch of beach for use in a movie. Destroying over an acer of
dunes in the process of building and tearing down the beach house just so the
movie "weekend at Bernies 2" could be made.
