In the Winter AC I said that Bill Roston's underwater videos of spawning
fishes
would make for a great "Shiner Week" on the Discovery Channel. Perhaps he
should
be contacted regarding a possible project. >>

I think that is a great idea. I've seen his photos of darters and thought
that they were phenomenal. He would be a great candidate for filming a native
fish program for the Discovery Channel and others. I haven't seen his videos,
but I imagine that they would blow people's minds if they saw the sheer
intensity of spawning colors that these shiners display; a lot of people
don't know that the native fishes can be that colorful and consequently
aren't interested in them. I think that a lot of people would be amazed to
know that such fish are native to the U.S. and would be more interested in
the plight of native fishes if they were to know about them.
