I have heard Fundulus zebrinus referred to in Oklahoma as "tiger
minnows."

I appreciate all the color in local names, and I have been known to
refer to bowfin by one of its regional appelations of "cypress trout."
However, for clarity of communication, scientific names or the names
approved by the AFS-ASIH Committee on Common Names should be used when
possible.

Thanks, Dave

"Where are we going?" "I don't know, are we there yet?"
