Darterfest is a small annual meeting of scientists who do research on
various aspects of darter systematics, behavior, and general ecology. This
year it was supposed to be hosted in western North Carolina by the NC State
Museum, I think, but was cancelled last week for lack of pre-registration.
My message yesterday was meant to be tongue-in-cheek about offering to host
the meeting in the future, but it may not be such a goofy idea as I thought
at first. This could only work if we're willing to deal with it (especially
next year's hosts in Michigan) and if the darter scientists are amenable to
such a joint meeting. For the moment it's just a hazy, wild-eyed idea. But
we shall see...
