ENDANGERED SPECIES SUITS TARGETED
The Bush administration is asking Congress to remove from
the Endangered Species Act a provision that allows environmental
groups and others to sue the Interior Department to get rare
plants and animals listed as endangered. The budget provision
would still permit citizen lawsuits but effectively render
them meaningless by placing severe limits on what the agency
can do or spend to comply with them, according to Interior
spokesman Mark Pfeifle.
