I once had a wels catfish I purchased
at a local pet store. It was still a juvi
around 5 inches. They didnt know what it
was. It lasted two weeks, until a south american
cat about the same size ate it!

Zebra mussels are eaten by some local fishes like the Wels, a giant catfish.
Their larval stage is also vulnerable to predation from other smaller fishes
and, if I remember correctly, from aquatic arthropods. Much of this is also
true for carp; the Wels is able to eat adult carp in a way few North
American predators in temperate areas are inclined to do.
