"Gate" is around 25 inches long right now. The gar do harass the bowfin
because they like to feed and rest in the same areas, and the bowfin don't
pay attention to the floating "logs" until they lash out at the bowfin,
then usually a chunk of fin is missing. they coexist in the aquarium
pretty good, but in the aquarium bowfins took the bottom layers, and gar
the top. If the pond was 4 times as big I would think about adding a
paddlefish and/or sturgeon, but it just isnt big enough and the "channel"
area is even less roomy for these fish which I would guess would like that
area the best.
