Bruce,

I've been using the H.O.T. Magnum 250's for several years, but in a large
tank like you've acquired, I doubt that that unit could provide a flow rate that
you'd like. That unit is more useful in the 55-75 gallon tank range. You might
consider using the sump like others have suggested and going to a higher
flow-rated sump pump to give you the desired rate of flow, while your native
plants are still able to maintain their rootings/footings in your sand substrate.
