This whole lamprey discussion is good, it got me thinking about exactly what
are the relationships between agnathans and fishes. In "Biology of Fishes",
p. 2, Bone, Marshall & Blaxter show a cladogram (tree of branching descent)
from Nelson (1969). This shows the Agnathans basal to all other swimming
gill-breathing vertebrates (fish), and accepts the agnathans as "fish" in
the broadest sense. I guess I'll go with that... maybe Shireen's name
contest won't be necessary after all. I think we (me?) are back at Chris'
remarks, that they are fish in at least a loose sense of the word.
