The German favorite foods for killies are red, white and black mosquito larva
called Rote M|ckenlarven, Weisse M|ckenlarven and Schwarze M|ckenlarven.

All are larva of different flying insects available at different times of the
year. The white are the glass larva or glass worms available in ice cold
ponds. They keep for weeks at 35 degrees or even if the surface is frozen in a
bucket. The red ones are also called bloodworms and the black ones are
mosquito
larvae and are found in the spring and summer and the insects are mosquitoes.
A
friend collects them in the winter and sell me a bucketful.
