I collect baby gar with a dip net. The easiest way is at night. They float
along the suface and are easy to pick out once you see them and know what to
look for. Coming up from below on wary ones is the best way. Look for
areas that should hold young fish, current breaks, weed lines in shallow
water, anywhere you would expect to find daphnia or other water "bug" food,
or small fry fishes that the gar would feed one. Good Luck!
