Thanks, Jan. Both are excellent references which I neglected to mention in my
previous post because I thought Ty was asking for a "definitive" list of all
fish species, not just North American ones. Needless to say, both lists are now
out-of-date. I eagerly await the new AFS list, which I believe will be out in
2001 or 2002.

(Note, however, that the AFS does not list Mexican fishes, which the latter list
does.)

A good on-line list of North American fish species (last updated Aug. 1998) can
be found at the Texas Natural History Collection:
