Daphnia occur in lakes/ponds and vertically migrate over the day
(typically migrate up at night... this is believed to be a predator
avoidance strategy). However, daphnia can be collected any time
throughout the day. The best way to collect daphnia is with a
plankton tow-net (but just dunking a large jar in the water just off
shore also will work).
