I wear a pair of felt-soled wading boots from Cabela's. The felt is really
good on slick rocks and the high top keeps most of the gravel out.

Another idea I have heard of but never tried, glue some astroturf to the
soles of a pair of tennis shoes. I may have to try that when my current
boots wear out (soon).
