Hi Chris, All,

The polyfilter was new in the package until fishes were actually in the
hotel rooms in Mexico. Then, we placed the fishes in coolers with heavy
agitation of the water provided by air pumps. The polyfilter was added to
the water, cut into small 1/2 inch cubes. Water was then changed several
times a day, and wastes removed from the coolers. No feeding of the fishes
was done. When the fishes stopped defecating (usually after about 3 days),
we bagged them up, one fish to a bag in breathable bags from Kordon, with
one cube of polyfilter per bag. I imagine that after three days in a
heavily stocked 70 quart cooler (some with up to 40 fishes in them), that
the polyfilter was biologically active by the time it was placed into the
bags. It had by them turned a faint brown. Some was pure black upon
arrival in Portland.

Subject: NANFA-- Norm in Mexico

I was flipping through the new issue of Buntbarsche Bulletin when a photo on
page 9 caught my eye. Gee, that looks like Norm Edelen, I thought. Later,
when I
read the article, I learned that sure enough it was -- Norm had traveled to
southern Mexico to collect cichlids and other fishes.

Two questions, Norm:

1) What permits are required to collect Mexican fishes?

2) The article mentions that a small piece of Polyfilter was added to each
breathable bag. Was this biologically active Polyfilter?
