I have had similar observations about my tadpole madtoms, Martin. I have
both floating driftwood with holes in it and dense clumps of floating
anacharis plants. I'd say at least 8 out of 10 madtoms choose the plants or
driftwood over the rocks stacked on the bottom. That seems to predominate
until the madtoms reach maturity (3" or so) and then they seem to have a
stronger affinity for the rocks on the bottom than the floating material.
