We used to have big, fat F. Chrysotus in North Florida, when I was younger.
They had all of the colors of spots (red,gold, and black), but only the
males had the black. I believe that we caught them in Thompson Creek which
drains part of the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia. They had lots of black. I
