Years ago I used to catch what I think were Shad in Fall Creek here in
Indianapolis. They all died pretty quickly. What I think are Shad is what
you mostly find dead in late winter and early spring in lakes around here.
I'm under the impression that when they are small, they are prey for game
fish but when they get too large they are detrimental to game fish fry and
maybe eggs.
