A TON has been written on this, both pro- and anti-dam.
I recommend the following books:
Bruce Brown, MOUNTAIN IN THE CLOUDS: A SEARCH FOR THE WILD SALMON
Joseph Cone, A COMMON FATE: ENDANGERED SALMON AND THE PEOPLE OF THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST
Alan Lufkin, ed., CALIFORNIA'S SALMON AND STEELHEAD: THE STRUGGLE TO RESTORE AN
IMPERILED RESOURCE
Patrick McCully, SILENCED RIVERS: THE ECOLOGY AND POLITICS OF LARGE DAMS
The definitive, authoritative, non-partisan book on the subject is UPSTREAM:
SALMON AND SOCIETY IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST, published by the National Research
Council. A must read!
For the dams-don't-kill salmon, fishing-kills-salmon perspective, see James L.
Buchal, THE GREAT SALMON HOAX: AN EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT OF THE COLLAPSE OF SCENCE
AND LAW AND THE TRIUMPH OF POLITICS IN SALMON RECOVERY. The entire MS of this
book is avilable on the web at http://www.buchal.com/hoax.html
This is a fascinating and politcally charged topic. Good luck. Let us know what
you come up with.

Hello folks,
I will be writing a paper in Ecology this semester and was planning on
doing it on the effects of dams on Pacific Northwest Salmon populations.
Does anyone have any recent research material they can recommend?
