Golden shiners get too big for sunnies to eat. In fact, they might grow too
big in a 125 gallon tank; in nature they sometimes grow over a foot long.
The bigger, more dominant males get a nice brassy gold with red in their
fins, really very pretty, but most of ours have stayed silver to yellow,
certainly nothing to rival sail fins. Whitetail shiners get pretty big as
well and nuptial males are gorgeous, but otherwise they're pretty plain.

Might be better to go with the shiners you want and rotate out the sunnies
and (if necessary) the madtoms. If you get creek stock, they might not grow
past five or six inches, or use the similar dollar sunfish.

My 2 cents.
