very good dave! thanks for the thorough explanation. one of the great things
about this list that i enjoy.
 
 
im curious to see a pic of a carolina parakeet.
 
just searched the web. the bird is extinct and was quite beautiful. sadly
gone. last colony observed in 1920 in florida. about 30 members. they were c
onsidered a pest because they gathered in great flocks and ravaged man's
plantings.

one would assume "parakeet" was a distinct specie. not so.
parakeet almost sounds like "little parrot". thus possibly a generic term
for small parrot like birds.
