Yes, its true. Hot water sits in your hot water heater, and may pick up
metals in it. I've always thought it a little ... obsessive to worry about
the metals coming in that way. Unless you're dealing with organisms that
are extremely sensitive to metals (e.g., corals), in which case you'd
probalby use DI/RO or something anyhow.... I wouldn't worry about it too
much.

On the other hand, if your water is coming out cold, it probalby won't make
a difference anyhow, unless you're doing a big water change. If you change
25% of the tank with water that's 10 degrees colder, the tank will only have
a drop of about 3 degrees...
