Jay,
The Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific is "okay" if you are a tourist and
take the family. I would highly recommend the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium here
in San Pedro (suburb of Los Angeles) to see real native pacific fish etc.
This aquarium is also free (they would love a donation). If you want to see
desert pupfish, you
could also go to the Living Desert Zoo in Palm Springs. They have a very
thriving population of C. Macularius in their pond. There is also the
Arboretum in Arcadia if you are into plants. This is where they shot the
early Tarzan movies and more recently Fantasy Island TV series.
