Another anecdote about shipping fish via USPS. I shipped a box of killifish
to Texas a couple years ago. Then I went away for a couple weeks, I told the
neighbor who was feeding our cat that if a box came it was an empty returned
from Texas and needed no attention. Well, when I got home I found that the
box was sent back from Texas as undeliverable because it contained live fish.
The fish were about half of them dead and the rest pretty sad after two
weeks or more. I took the box to my local Post office and complained and they
were sympathetic and refunded my postage (Priority Mail). I sent the box
again the same way with replacement fish and it went through OK. Go figure!
It is always a gamble with about 90% success rate.
