Unfortunately, my introduction into fish-keeping wasn't nearly as colorful
or prosaic as others' have been.

I bought a couple of goldfish for my daughter for her birthday. I'd never
kept fish before. Couldn't understand why the water kept getting yucky in
her little two-gallon tank. Hated to see her birthday present die, so I read
up in a fairly obssessive manner on the science and art of fish keeping.
Eventually, her goldfish were moved into a 55g tank with adequate
filtration....

Oh, and along the way I got intensely interested in native fishes and native
aquatic plants, and aquatic conservation, and somehow added a 25g and 75g
for native fishes, and a couple of small ponds out back, also for native
plants and fishes.
