Hi Rich, two things--bluespotted sunfish only range as far north as NJ. We
saw tons of them just yesterday in the Okefenokee in Jawjuh, which will be
reported in more detail later (and they were in water with a pH of 4.1!).
Also, a cool place to watch the alewife run is in Pembroke, MA, in the
middle of town where there is a town park built around an old herring
"ladder". The park is run by the town's Herring Commission. I think it's
along Route 139, I'm probably wrong. They have an annual herring fry open to
the public in early May, call Town Hall and see when it is this year. Eating
a fried alewife is not so different from biting into a screen door that
tastes like fish.
