Interesting, I recall a program that SA has been implementing to
eradicate a non-native species of tree (scrub oak? can't remember) that
was creating a serious impact on groundwater.

The program uses accesss helicopters, and has created park service jobs
nationwide for individuals doing the eradication, but in some instances
has required steep mountain access to get to one or two horizontal-rooted
shrubbies just to prevent further spread.

If you know anything about that program and can contact them, you might
be able to tandem efforts for a return-to-habitat.
