I have used that type of "sand box" sand in two tanks now with no adverse results. One time it was purchased from Lowe's the other from Sprawl Mart, so you should be safe with the Home Depot stuff.

I wanted to get some coarser sand from an actual river and put it over top of the bag sand layer but wasnt able to ...just to see what mixing something coarser and natural in would do.

Is playground sound -- specifically, sand labeled as "high desert sand" that
you can get-in-Home Depot -- safe for the aquarium?

Is it safe for soft water fishes?

Thanks muchly,
