Just a quick note to follow up with what we reported with the barrens
topminnows last week. Pat Rakes (also of CFI) had to go meet with some
landowners Monday on the Barrens Plateau about some spring restoration
etc... While out there, he went back by the barrens topminnow type
locality. It had indeed dried up completely, though a recent rain had
left water standing there. He saw no sign of any fish, including Gambusia.
It appears the ones we rescued were taken just in time. Those are doing
well at CFI. Pat also looked at several sites that might well make good
transplant sites for the topminnows.
